ÖBB Taurus

By Ties

The is my attempt at re-creating the iconic ÖBB Taurus locomotive using LEGO® bricks. These locomotives where built by Siemens for the Österreichische Bundesbahnen, but versions of this locomotive are also used by the DB and some private rail companies.

The model is built in 1:45 scale, and I’m really happy with how wel I was able to capture the complex curved shape of the real locomotive in my model. The model uses custom “M” wheels (24mm rolling diameter), I’ve used wheels from HA Bricks to build mine. Other then the wheels, no custom parts are required.

The model is designed to be powered by either two Power Functions L motors, or two Powered Up* L motors. For the Power Functions motors, a third party battery hub is required, as there is no space in the model for an IR receiver. I’ve built my model with two Power Functions motors and powered it using a BuWizz 2.0 hub.

The model needs R104 or wider to run, the way the bogies and couplers are built makes it impossible for the model to run on tighter curves or switches.

* I’ve only built the model using PF motors, the Powered Up setup has not been tested.

I’ve spent a lot of time to make the instructions for this model as easy to follow as possible, but this is a very complex model, and I would not recommend any novice builders to attempt to build it. The final model is quite stable, but during the build process the model wil be very fragile at certain points.

The model uses some “illegal” techniques that put stress on certain parts, and some connections are very tight.

The model uses a few rare or old parts, like the 1×4 hinge plates, and requires rigid hoses to be cut to custom lengths. A part list is included at the end of the PDF building instructions.

Many hours have gone into making the instructions for this model, so please consider leaving a small PayPal donation if you can, and respect the licensing terms under which this model is shared.
