Baureihe 189 – Siemens ES64F4

By bigdaedy

About the real one:

The “ES64F4” is an European standard gauge multi-system electric locomotive manufactured by Siemens. Designated “Baureihe 189” in Germany, the largest fleet of these locomotives is operated by the Deutsche Bahn Cargo rail transport company, where they are used to haul heavy freight trains all across Europe.

Most notably some of these powerful engines are fitted with an automatic coupler in order to haul the 6000 t weighing iron ore trains from Rotterdam in the Netherlands to the steel manufacturing plants in the Saarland region in Germany.

About the moc:

I started working on this model in January 2021 and the first draft was based on my aesthetically similiar moc of the Bombardier “Traxx” locomotive.

The moc is modelled after one of the specialized locomotives equipped with the distinct yellow automatic couplers. It features four moving pantographs and is highly detailed all around.

Drives really smooth too and is incredibly stable and sturdy.

Any criticism or feedback regarding the model is highly appreciated!

This moc is for experienced builders!

Custom parts:
– Custom M-wheels manufactured by HA-Bricks or any other 24mm (without flange) diameter wheels
– Custom yellow train magnets manufactured by HA-Bricks
– “Hose rigid – 3mm” aka Flex Tubes need to be cut to length
– Can be fitted with custom LED lights

Minimum radius: R104

Rare parts:
The pantographs use so called “ice skates” from the Lego Bellville series. If you have a surplus kidney, you can sell it to aquire these parts (They’re really, really expensive, but look nice).
They can however be substituted by using the same technique as the other pantographs.

Power:
– Standard ordinary train motors
– Buwizz or similiar power source

Additional comments:
The vent assembly on the roofs upper sides will require a certain amount of patience and fiddling to get right. Once the roof is attached, the parts are secured and should not move any more or even fall out.

The side attachments on the train motors tend to loosen up and even fall off with the time. I recommend the use of an adhesive past (or special ABS glue if you don’t care) to tightly secure them in place.

If you want to upload the .io file to BrickLink as a wanted list, you first need to open the file and remove the custom parts like the wheels and cut hose rigid.
